Our Mission

Our Mission

Hey there! We are Cody and Taylor Carew, raising our family on our 10 acre slice of heaven in West Michigan and are the founders of Rooted Homestead.

We have been dreaming about Rooted since 2020 when we had our first baby. I was teaching in a public elementary school and Cody was commuting to an architecture job almost an hour from home, while our infant son was attending daycare for most of the day. We knew there had to be more for us.

After we had our daughter at the end of 2021, it became very clear to me that being a working mom, sending my children to daycare on a teacher’s salary, was not what I wanted my life as a wife and mother to look like. We felt God calling us to begin focusing more of our time, energy, and money on things that could better our life: learning how to bake sourdough bread, cooking meals from scratch, and gardening, to name a few.

After relocating to a new part of the state and having to rebuild relationships and our life as a whole, we knew the time was right to begin really preparing for Rooted. We officially launched in summer 2023, starting with our farm stand. We sell sourdough bread, sourdough scones, fresh eggs laid by our chickens, and homemade jam year round and when it’s in season, we also sell fresh produce and cut flower bouquets.

This fall, we’ve branched out and have been working to grow Rooted to become closer to our eventual overarching goal of being an entire lifestyle brand. We hope to offer online sourdough courses, create an online community for those wanting to meet and network with families with similar values and goals, and help others on their journey to becoming Rooted.
